
Stevie Wonder quit MoTown in 1970 and made two albums all by himself. Berry Gordy was shocked to be informed of this by Stevie Wonder and Berry Gord agreed to Stevie Wonder's demand for more autonomy and complete creative control and the rights to all his music. Stevie Wonder signed a 13 million dollar MoTown Records contract in 1972. Stevie Wonder received a higher royalty as well as complete creative control. He also enjoyed the right to his own songs , an opportunity that only a handful of artists could have at the time. The agreement permitted Wonder's songs and videos to discuss controversial subjects such as drugs, war, poverty and even politics. In 1972 the album was came out with Music Of My Mind, the first album released under the new MoTown agreement. Talking Book, Stevie Wonder's 1972 album, stands as a landmark in the history of music. It featured Superstition as the album's number one track.
